Do you ever think of how Windsor High School’s lunch period–Owl Time– differs from other schools? What do you think of the quality of  Windsor High School’s Owl Time? To the majority of Windsor students, there are more positives than negatives about Owl Time.  The Owl Time period gives students time to do a wide range of things such as doing homework, catching up on assignments or tests or just being able to play in the gym with friends.

Windsor used to have a lunch period that consisted of three shifts. Each shift was 25 minutes long. Also, every student’s fifth hour period was a full 60 minutes each day. The current hour long lunch that is called Owl Time has caused many area schools to consider the same concept. Schools such as Fox and Festus have come to observe how Owl Time works.

“I love Owl Time because you have a bunch of free time to hang out with friends.  It’s also a great time to catch up on homework and study for tests,” junior Kaylee Comia said.

Most area schools do not have the same setup as Windsor’s Owl Time period. For example, Hillsboro has a similar setup to what Windsor had prior to implementing Owl Time.  Instead of having an hour every day to eat lunch,  Hillsboro High School has shifts.

Senior Tara Mayberry from Hillsboro High School said, “I occasionally bring my lunch, but the things I love to get the most are the smiley fries! Owl time sounds really nice, and I would consider it for our school!”

Would you want your lunch shifts like this?

“I think it’s odd because of the way they have their shifts.  I like Owl Time more because it’s an hour long and you also have free time to get homework and other school work done,” Windsor sophomore Kayla Moore said.

Another high school, Seckman, has shifts for their lunch periods.

Seckman sophomore Baylee Schaffer said, “The majority of the food that we get isn’t cooked thoroughly.  We have pizza, Chinese food, burgers, pretzels and also salad.  We have thirty minute shifts, and there are three of them, A, B. and C lunch.”

Though most of Windsor kids wouldn’t want to go back to shifts, would you rather go with thirty minute shifts or an hour long lunchtime?

Schaffer said, “I would really enjoy Owl Time because I would really enjoy being with my friends all at once.  Also, I really think an hour long is better than shifts.”
