Restaurant Closure Affects Windsor Students

Scottie’s Pub House abruptly closed on November 12.

On Sunday, November 12, employees and customers of Scottie’s Pub House were abruptly greeted with a sign simply stating that they were closed. Scottie’s has permanently closed business and ceased all operations.

In a statement released to the public, the company offered a brief response.

“The Gianino Family of Restaurants is sad to announce the closing of Scottie’s Pub House… We thank you for your patronage and apologize for any inconvenience.”

What makes this closure so odd is the fact that most of the employees were not notified until the day of the actual closure. Several employees who are Windsor students were caught off guard by the news.

Senior Clayton Kusmec worked at Scotties for over a year. He found out about the news from a Snapchat story.

“Honestly, I had no clue that any of this was going to happen,” Kusmec said. “Everything was business as usual beforehand.”

Sophomore Taylor Duncan worked at Scotties for the past 2-3 months. Duncan found out about the closure from a co-worker while trying to get a shift covered. She never even heard from a manager.

Duncan said, “I feel like they could have handled it better. I wish they would have given us a heads up and communicated better.”

With this sudden closure, some of the workers have been left in the dark as to what lies ahead for them. Some have been offered jobs at restaurants under the same family such as Frankie Gianino’s, while others were left without a job. On the bright side, those who haven’t been offered a job at a Gianino family business have been given opportunities at other businesses interested in those who are familiar with the industry. For example, Weber’s Front Row offered any Scottie’s worker a job at one of their locations.

As for the reason of closing, most workers are still left wondering. Some wonder if the business closed simply because it was unprofitable. But even this explanation is perplexing because the business seemed to regularly attract customers and is fairly well respected, especially among locals.

Many of the locals are surprised by this sudden closure, as there was no indication of any issues with the business. This also brings concerns as to what will be done with the now vacant lot where Scottie’s used to sit.

“I would like to see a Red Robin go in there,” senior Trent Deevers said.
