The Field Of Dreams

This wasn’t just another game.

This was a game at one of the nicest baseball facilities in the world–Busch Stadium.

For the seventh consecutive season, the Owls were able to play at the home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Each year, the Windsor baseball team must sell an allotment of tickets to a future Cardinals game. The Owls needed to sell 900 tickets for the Cardinals vs Phillies game on May 20.  Each player that sold their share of tickets was able to hear their name announced over the stadium sound system.

It is an awesome experience for the players, parents, and coaches,” head coach Jeff Young said.

While the goal of every game is to win, this game had an even bigger meaning. Players getting to set foot on the beautifully kept field was the No. 1 goal.  Unfortunately, the Owls lost 9-3 against Collinsville on April 16 at Busch Stadium.

Senior Carter Schmutzler was the starting pitcher for the Owls. He was able to get the Busch Stadium experience for the past four years.

Schmutzler said, “It’s a great feeling that you don’t really get with any other experience.”

For some of the younger players, this was their first experience at the field where David Freese brought home the 2011 World Series trophy back to St. Louis.

This was sophomore Justin Stenger’s first year going to Busch Stadium to play.

“I felt amazing. I felt like my dream had came true.  My favorite part was just being on a professional ball field being able to play catch where many popular players have played.  It was just all around an experience and a dream come true.”
