One of Windsor’s most consistent athletic teams over the past few years has been the girls tennis team.

Year after year the team seems to exceed expectations.

Just like every year, the team has several goals.

“To have a winning record, get to the finals of districts and someone getting to the state competition,” head coach Doc Carranza said of his team goals. .

The girls practice every weekday after school for 2.5 hours.  At these practices they run drills, challenge other teammates, and receive corrections from their coach and managers to help improve their skills.

This year’s No. 1 tennis player, junior Kenzie Sowa, said, “My expectations are very high this season. I didn’t think they were going to be, but after watching them practice for a few weeks, these other schools don’t know what’s coming. I’m overly proud.”

Sowa has been a part of the team since her freshman year. Overall, this is Carranza’s eighth season with a girl’s program and 21st as a tennis coach.  The Owls begin their season against St. Charles West at 4pm today at home.

Carranza said, “My favorite thing about coaching is to watch a player go from their freshman year not being able to hit the ball over the net, to their senior year and having a chance to be really good.”
