The Windsor Owls softball team ended their season in the district championship game against the Hillsboro Hawks on October 18. The Hawks defeated the Owls 4-0.

While the Owls were disappointed that their season ended without a district championship, the Owls had several highlights throughout the fall. The Owls were led by junior Piper Montgomery, seniors Emma Pouvaranukoah  and Delana Mentel, and several others. The Owls ended their season with a 12-14 record.

After nearly winning a district title, head coach Wayne Montgomery said, “This is a building block for their future.”

Offensively, the Owls were led by Piper Montgomery, who hit .519 and led the team in runs batted in. As a catcher, she was also a key component of the team’s defense.

Wayne Montgomery said, “She stepped up her hitting and her defense both this year and is a great asset to the team.”

Piper’s success led to a very good season and almost a district championships.

Piper Montgomery said, “ This year was a fun year and I really enjoyed it but I hope to get better in the offseason and hope we can go further next year.”

Luckily, the Owls will return Piper Montgomery and several starters, but the Owls will graduate several others.

Wayne Montgomery said, “(The seniors) had great leadership and helped turn around Windsor softball and taught the young and upcoming players.”

The Owls are already optimistic about next season.

Wayne Montgomery said, “The senior class leaving will definitely have an effect on our team but we have some great JV players coming up and others players like Peyton Erwin, Gabby Dueing, Cierra Parker and Madison Alaniz. We hope to have a better season next year with the seniors leaving a good legacy.”
