The moment head tennis coach Doc Carranza walked up to senior Kenzie Sowa and senior Symphony Schodroski to inform the two that they qualified for state, they realized that their hard work had paid off.

“I’m very excited to go to state because it will be my first time there. I can’t wait to play some talented opponents,” Schodroski said.

For the first time in Windsor tennis history, a girl doubles team is heading to state, which will take place October 15-16 in Springfield, MO. Sowa and Schodroski were ranked second in the district.

Since Schodroski didn’t play until her junior year, this is only the second year the duo has played together.  Even though she only has a year of experience under her belt, Schodroski adapted to the sport in a hurry. 

“Her quickness helped her adapt to the sport very fast,” Carranza said.

Sowa, the team captain, has been a leader all season. She has helped encourage the underclassmen all season.  

“Remember never to give up and, as long as you put in the work and want to do something, you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to,” Sowa said. 

Her turning point in doubles with Schodroski was the forming of partnership and working on skills to improve one another. Sowa has shown improvement from previous seasons by putting more time and effort into tennis.

Sowa said,  “I really put in work and made tennis a top priority to make progress with myself and my teammates.” 

As state inches closer for the pair, their record remains 10-7. The two have clearly hit their stride as they head to the state tournament. 

 “Good things take time,” Sowa said.
