It doesn’t get much better than SEC baseball.

Soon, former Windsor standout Derek Williams will find that out first hand.

Last week, Williams officially committed to Mizzou to play baseball. After playing just one college season, Williams is making the jump from junior college to a power five school.

“I have been having a lot of fun, but I’m ready to make the next step in my game and get better all the way around and become a better player overall,” Williams said.

Williams is crushing the ball at Mineral Area College this spring. Williams broke the MAC home run record when he hit his 18th home run earlier this season. He currently leads the country with 24 home runs and is hitting .377 on the season.

Those gaudy numbers brought interest from schools throughout the country.

“Some of the other schools I was talking to, other than Mizzou, were SLU, Iowa, Alabama, LSU, Nebraska, UCF, and Illinois State,” Williams said.

Since Mizzou wasn’t the only school interested in Williams,  why did he choose Mizzou?

“I chose Mizzou because I feel like it’s the best fit for me. It’s two hours away from home, and I always wanted to play there and I can finally make that happen,” Williams said.
