The Windsor wrestling team continues to be one of the most consistent programs at Windsor.

On the girl’s side, junior Delaney Rapp advanced to the Missouri State High School championships, which begins today and ends tomorrow. Rapp is 29-25 on the season.

Rapp said, “I am very ready but a little nervous because this is something I have been waiting to achieve and it’s finally here and I just hope I do good.”

The Owls new girls coach, Ryan Nuspl, is optimistic about the team.

Nuspl said, “With this season I think it went really well. I could not be more proud of them. We ended the season with a dual meet record of 8-6. Our biggest struggle was just numbers. We have good wrestlers, we just need more so we are not giving up too many points in duals.”

While the season isn’t quite over, Nuspl is excited for the future.

Nuspl also said, “Next I am trying to do things to get more girls out, especially tournament wise.  I am going to look into the girls joining a freestyle club wrestling over the summer. Any time on the mat is crucial.”

On the boy’s side, the team advanced six wrestlers to this week’s state tournament, which is on February 24 and 25. Bryce Henry, Luke Patterson, Brayden Belding, Colin Carter, Nick Baer, and Cameron Busch all finished in the top four at districts this past weekend. .

Junior Colin Carter is in his first season on the wrestling team.

Carter said, “The only way to prepare for state is by resting and drinking lots of water, and just making sure that my body is in good shape.”

Head coach Tom Ford said, “This year we have six guys advancing and that is already better than last year and three of them are sophomores, three of them are juniors. And we also have one kid which is Colin Carter and this is his first year wrestling for high school and he is going to state.”

The wrestling team is hopeful that some of their athletes will bring home state medals this week.

Coach Ford said, “The guys are ready, we have been training for this moment and they just have to rest up and do what they need to do and they should do very well down at state.”
