The Windsor track team is poised to have a successful season this spring.
On the girls side, the Owls have defending conference champion 100 meter sprinter Taylor Richey, who qualified for the state meet in the 100m and 200m last spring. The Owls also return Nicole Barton, who qualified for state in pole vault last year. The team expects seniors Tori Bowen and Heather Korman to make large contributions this season.
On the boys side, they have some strong runners returning, including Brandon Fouts who posted an impressive 100 meter dash time of 11.35 seconds last year at the North County Relays Varsity Invitational, and Joel Farmer who had a triple jump PR of 41 feet and 6 inches last year in the district meet leading the charge for the boys. The Owls also expect hurdlers Harrison Stoudt and Kalen Jarnegan to have breakout seasons.
Sophomore track runner Madelyn Miller said, “I just want myself and all my girls to work as hard as we can, and strive to accomplish all of our goals.”
She was also very optimistic when asked about her individual goals.
“I hope to make it to sectionals in 300m hurdles,” she said, “and maybe even farther.”
The head coach of the boys, Jeff Stoffey, said he’s excited to watch his team compete this season.
“I think we’re really going to miss Dane Rodriguez and the team points he brought us last year, but other than that, I’m really happy with what we have returning with Fouts in the 100 meter dash, Joel Farmer who can hopefully make it to state this year for triple jump. We also have a couple very good returning hurdlers such as Kalen Jarnegan and Harrison Stoudt, and we have 16 freshman so that bodes well for our future. We’ve also got some nice throwers in Grant Hogan and Jacob Vaughn.”
The Owls have high expectations this year.
“I expect us to outperform last year’s team. Overall, I think there are several boys and girls that could make a run to the state meet this season,” Stoffey said.
