Freshman Field Day

The third annual freshman field day was a success.

On Wednesday, April 19, Windsor High School hosted their third annual freshman field day.

It was a day filled with fun activities for several teams who compete with one another. It was also a day to get students out of the high school building while the juniors took the ACT and sophomores took the Plan Test.

Freshman Alyssa Weisner enjoyed the day outside.

“It was really fun and not something you would typically do,” Weisner said.

Although field day was meant to be for students, even the teachers got involved and enjoyed watching the students.

Teacher Melissa Pennycook said, “It’s laid back, kids are having fun being kids, and teachers get to have fun with the kids, too.  I really enjoy playing soccer with the kids after all of our activities were over.”

Teacher Kristen Ream also played soccer with the students. The various teams of freshman showed an exceedingly amount of good sportsmanship.

Mentel said, “Everyone cheered each other on, and did their part to motivate each other.”

Pennycook also said, “Students rallied around their teams, cheered them on, and gave high-fives after the activities were finished.  It was awesome to see kids work together and have fun.”

Angie Fears said, “Everyone seemed to try their best without getting super-competitive or too nit-picky about things.  It was all about having fun rather than winning.”

Even though freshman field day was an exciting competition between the peers, the hot temperatures brought lots of sunburns and allergies were flowing like crazy, but that wouldn’t stop them from doing it again.

Not only do some think they should continue with the annual freshman field day, but that the day should be expanded to other groups.

Weisner said, “We should keep doing freshman field day. Everyone enjoyed it. I think it would be cool to do it within different grade levels but some people didn’t like the heat.”

Angel Thebeau said, “I think they should continue doing it, but I also think they should do it for all grade levels. I found it very exciting and would want to do it again.”
