Windsor High School art students recently brought their pieces to life at the annual art show. The art show allows students to exhibit their hard work and gain responses from the public.         

Art teacher Abigail Pikul said, “The art show turnout was much smaller this year than it has been in the past. I’m assuming this was because of all the testing. There were so many outstanding pieces; I love seeing the creativity year after year.  The students here are amazing and continue to blow me away.   There were a few pieces that stood out to me like Jaime Gallagher’s Kraken teapot and Zia Bousquet’s skull.”

Laura Ward said, “My favorite part of teaching art is watching students grow as artists. As art teachers, we get a unique opportunity to have students in our classes all four years of high school, if they choose. It is very rewarding to watch students evolve as makers and mature into young adults.”

The students step outside of their comfort zone and create pieces that have a deeper meaning than what they appear.

Jamie Gallagher said, “My favorite part about creating the pieces was definitely the preliminary planning process. Honestly, having people view my art is nerve wracking; my pieces can be pretty hard to comprehend and sometimes people perceive it in a negative light. I would love to be featured in the exhibit again. To me, sharing my creations is a vital part of the process.”

Senior Allisa Mcmahan said, “My favorite part about creating art is the look on people’s faces when they see them. It makes me feel like they can see the real me for once.”

Mcmahan also said, “My favorite part about the art show itself was seeing people come together to look around and put out their opinions. Art brings everyone together and being able to see people who thought they had no artistic talent have pieces out there makes me so happy.”

Ward said, “ I love the way the show was presented. This year the students designed the arrangement and it really showcased the artwork.”
