The Windsor softball team is hoping to take the next step.

The softball team is regularly one of the most consistent programs in the area. This year is no different. The Owls, who were recently ranked No. 7 in the St. Louis small-school division in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, are 16-11 on the season. They head into the district tournament this week as the No. 2 seed. The Owls open up district play tomorrow at 4 pm at Bayless against the winner of the Lutheran South/Bayless game.

The Owls owe much of their success to an experienced senior class, including Nicole Berry, Camryn Clark, Makayla Holt and Taylor Andrews.  

“They all have been a big part of the lineup this season, as well as all playing key positions in the field. We will miss all of them and all they contributed,” junior Ally Brickner said.

Clark has helped the lead the Owls from the pitching circle and from the plate. Clark is 8-4 on the season and has a team-leading 85 strikeouts. She is also hitting .506 with 7 home runs this season.

“Camryn has played a big role all four years for the team. She has done a great job in the field and at the plate this season,” Brickner said.

The Owls are excited to see how this postseason plays out.

“I think we will do well. Our goal is to get all of our bats hitting at the same time to to work together as a team to get both of the wins for the district championship,” Brickner said.

Over the past several years, the Owls have had teams come close to winning a district title. They hope this is the year.

Head coach Wayne Montgomery said, “We are a better team than last year and last year we got second place.  We have a chance to win districts if we play how we need to, and if we play to our full potential.”
