Where is he from?
Gilbert is from Valley Park, Missouri.
Where did he go to college?
He attended college at the University of Central Missouri.
How long has he been at Windsor?
This is his fifth year at Windsor.
What is his athletic background?
He grew up playing every sport he could and encourages kids to do the same. He played hockey and basketball in high school. He also worked with the UCM basketball team in college. He is currently a rec league basketball “monster.”
What is his favorite thing about coaching?
His favorite thing about coaching is being a positive influence in the lives of young men. He tries to bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn to practice every day. He is also an extremely competitive person and being able to share his passion for sports is what drives him.
What is his proudest moment as a coach/teacher?
His proudest moment as a coach was going to the conference championship back-to-back in his first two years of coaching seventh grade. They ended up winning the conference championship game the second year after they fell just a few points short the year before. Both were great groups of young men who battled through adversity and rallied together to accomplish what they set out to achieve at the beginning of the season.
Who’s in his family?
Gilbert is the middle child of five siblings–two brothers and three sisters. His parents divorced when he was two years old, so the holidays get pretty hectic. His step dad is from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and owns season tickets for the Packers. Naturally, he became a huge Packers fan, and goes to multiple games a year. Gilbert said, “I recently got married to my beautiful wife Ashela Gilbert this past summer, and we live in Arnold with our dog, Flipp.”
What is his favorite movie & food?
His favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber, and he quotes it daily, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?” His favorite food is pork steak and homemade mashed potatoes.
