Onlookers would be amazed at what one wave of a hand could do to a room of chaos ridden high schoolers. A regal man stands in front of it all and commands silence, the students listen, respect oozing out of their very being. The chaos is quieted.

What seems a looming task to others, is merely a passing moment for Jacob Bubb, Windsor’s newest head band director. Bubb recently moved back from Kansas City, where he first started his career and met his wife. Originally from the Kirkwood area, he says nothing could put a price on family and is happy to be by his again.

“It has been a really cool experience here because everyone has really welcomed me in a way I wasn’t expecting. A lot of times when you take over an established program like Windsor, you end up walking into some people who resent somebody new taking over and doing their thing. Everybody at Windsor has been really excited for me to be here, and the work that we’ve done has, I think, put everyone in a pretty positive overall attitude. The adjustment has been pretty easy so far,” Bubb said.

Ryan Staines, on the other hand, is the greenhorn of the group. The new assistant band director at Windsor gives him a kick start to his career. Staines grew up in Fort Zumwalt district and just graduated from Truman State University.

After having a complete turnover in staff this past year, the students seem to have bounced back, thanks to the new direction of both Bubb and Staines.

Staines is very excited to see where this marching band season goes and how the students will do. The band room has been chaotic with all the construction around the school, but both new directors seem to be adjusting well.

“When it really gets to marching season, spending all day as a unit, you get to know people, and you get to have a really good time. I think that marching band is one of my strong suits. It was something that I really enjoyed, it’s a community that is fun to be a part of when you get there,” Staines said.
