It was her eighth grade year. Winter sports were starting up and Symphony Schodroski didn’t know what to do. Friends would tell her “you should try out for something new.” Schodroski took that advice and tried out for girl’s basketball. She made the team and has loved the sport ever since.
The junior is now starting up her fourth year of basketball with even more excitement and confidence.
Schodroski has continuously improved since making the eighth grade team. While she has mostly improved by gaining experience, she has also gained more confidence with the ball.
Head coach Kimberly Schmidt was impressed on how much she improved over the summer before high school because she had only played for one year. As a matter of fact, Schmidt doesn’t know if she’s seen another student improve so much in such a short time out of all of her years coaching.
Schmidt said, “Symphony’s progress over the past few years has been impressive. She has been dedicated during the summers and she has reaped the benefits of that hard work.”
While Schodroski saw some action with the varsity last season, she is now a varsity starter.
“I‘m very excited for this basketball season. I have lots of confidence in my team that we can get many wins,” Schodroski said.
Schodroski has also played soccer for a while, so she expects the same from both sports: To have a great season while also having fun. Soccer is a big sport for her, but she doesn’t let it get in the way of playing basketball. She enjoys having another sport to focus on.
Schmidt thinks that she has the ability to do well on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. She has the ability of being a complete player.
Schodroski knows how to keep things loose and keep people having fun. She not only brings energy to the team, but she also brings spunk and attitude to the team.
Schmidt said, “Symphony has a good sense of humor and helps to keep things fun at practice. She has the ability to laugh at herself and help to make sure others are also having fun.”
