The Windsor Owls softball team ended last season with a record of 13-11 and a disappointing exit in the second round of districts. 

The 2021 softball team has already surpassed that 2020 win total. 

While the softball team couldn’t match the St. Louis Cardinals current winning streak of 16 games (and counting), the Owls put together a nice winning streak themselves. 

Before last night’s loss at Farmington, the Owls won ten straight games. They are currently 14-5 and ranked second in the stltoday.com small school rankings for the St. Louis area. 

The team consists of five seniors, along with several juniors and sophomores. 

When it comes to pitching, the Owls are led by sophomore Riley Fendler, who is 10-3 on the season with a 2.48 ERA. 

Head coach Wayne Montgomery said, “She’s been solid overall. She’s been the difference for us. She trusts the defense. She has better control and velocity this year.” 

In the circle, Fendler tries to stay focused. 

 “I just picture that it is just the catcher and I. I don’t focus on anything else other than my pitch and the spin,” Fendler said. 

The Owls also have senior pitcher Corryn James and junior Abby Holland, who are both capable of giving the team some innings. 

Montgomery said, “James and Holland will both get a lot of innings. Holland has speed and James has movement on her ball so that provides us with some depth.” 

Holland leads the Owls with a .486 average and senior Grace Sulin is hitting .475.

Captains Riley Siegel and Cierra Parker both help provide leadership for the Owls. 

Last season, Siegel hit nine home runs to go along with 31 RBI’s, which earned her second team all state honors along with first team all conference. She is currently hitting .321 this season and has contributed 12 RBI’s. Parker is hitting .354 with 15 RBI’s. 

Montgomery said, “Parker has been driving in a lot of runs for the last three years. I think this team has the potential to hit over 20 home runs. We have a lot of power in the lineup.”

As a captain, Parker has more responsibilities. 

  “I feel added pressure because I am the oldest on the team. I am also the captain, so I have to be a good example for everyone. Whenever I am not playing well, I also put myself down more because I am always trying to be a good role model for the younger kids.”

Coach Montgomery mentioned the younger players on the team contributing as well. 

Montgomery said,  “Logan Veselske, Bailey Davis, and Madison Williams bring a flashiness to the defense and solid hitting to the lineup.”

The Owls outscored their opponents 122-23 on their ten game win streak.

Parker said, “I think everyone had their own role on the team for the winning streak and it will help us for our tougher upcoming games.”
