After finishing the regular season with a 16-7 record, the Windsor softball team is ready for the postseason.

The No. 3 seed Owls will play No. 6 seed Sikeston at 6pm on Wednesday at Festus.

Head coach Wayne Montgomery said the strength of this team is the overall depth of the lineup.

“I think this team has a number of players that can step up any given night. We don’t have a season MVP. We have at least 10 players that have all had some special moments this year. Our whole lineup could have big games at the plate. This team doesn’t rely on one player to win games. This season has really been a team effort,” Montgomery said.

Senior Riley Siegel mentioned the growth of the team

Siegel said, “We started off a little rough and I was getting nervous for the rest of the season but we pulled it together and are better than ever.”

The team finished second in the conference after a tough 4-1 loss to Hillsboro, but the Owls may face the Hawks in the second round of districts.

Senior Cierra Parker reflected on the tough losses of late

“There are a little bit of nerves after the tough losses but I think our game against Hillsboro showed we can play against tough teams and Farmington didn’t get to see the best of our ability. So we have a lot to prove,” Parker said.

Montgomery is ready to see what the Owls can do this week.

“Farmington and Hillsboro have solid softball teams. All three of us are ranked in the state.  We didn’t play our best games against them so we know that we can compete with them in districts,” Montgomery said.

The Owls will lean heavily on sophomore ace Riley Fendler, who has been strong from the plate and the pitching circle this season. She is hitting .414 and leads the team in RBI’s with 23, along with an ERA of 2.45.

Montgomery has confidence in his team.

“I feel pretty confident that we can make a run in districts. We have a good group of players. We have a solid lineup that can produce a lot of runs. Our defense has been strong all year long. We’ve had solid pitching from Riley Fendler and Corynn James. If we can play as a team, we can accomplish anything,” Montgomery said.
