Patrick Soaring To New Heights
AJ Patrick set the new Windsor record in high jump on Tuesday
April 12, 2023
On Tuesday at the Festus Tiger Town Invitational, junior AJ Patrick had a day to remember.
After almost scratching out at 5-feet-8 inches with two misses, he then started to do what he expected to do whenever he arrived at Festus on Tuesday–win.
Not only did he win, but he set the school record with a jump of 6-feet-0.5 inches. He didn’t stop there. Eventually, he ended up clearing 6-feet-2 inches, which is now the new Windsor school record.
Prior to Tuesday, Patrick was in a three way tie for high jump in school history. He was tied with Logan Chaney (2022) and Sean Fitzgerald (2013). He now stands alone at 1.88 meters.
“It felt really good to get the record, but I have higher aspirations at this point,” Patrick said. “I want to get 6-feet-4 inches and medal at state this year.”
Last season, Patrick jumped six feet at districts, but unfortunately he didn’t make it to state. It was an unusual year in which five athletes cleared six feet at the district meet.
“He caught a bad break last year because he had a good day at districts,” head coach Jeff Stoffey said. “But if he keeps jumping like he is right now, he has nothing to worry about. I’m excited to see what he can do over these last few weeks.”
The Owls head to Farmington on Friday.
Stoffey said, “We’re quickly getting late in the season, so it’s time to see what we are capable of. We have very talented boys and girls teams, so it should be a fun last few weeks.”
