Ever since senior Katie Moore watched the Windsor volleyball team make it to state as an eighth grader, she has been hungry to take the team back to state. Moore has been a standout libero throughout her high school career.
Now, with it being her senior year, the stakes are a bit higher.
Moore said, “This one’s a little bit more special because it is my senior year.”
Moore thinks they have potential to go to state and has confidence in her team’s chances of winning their JCAA conference this year. The Owls are 6-2 this season.
Moore said, “Overall, I think we can come out first in our conference. There are some tough teams, but I think we are the best well rounded team.”
The first tournament went well for Moore and the Owls as they won four out five games. The Owls lost to Helias from Jefferson City in the championship game.
Moore said, “I think the team worked well adjusting to losing one player; we all came together and pushed through.”
Moore was referring to the loss of junior starter Hannah Jarnegan, who had to sit after being injured in their jamboree.
Head coach Stephany Dueker-Richmond said, ”We changed pretty much our whole lineup to make us the best we could be without Hannah, without causing a ton of confusion. Adrianna Mancuso actually played in Hannah’s spot but every girl stepped up in Hannah’s absence because pretty much everything we did had to be better for us to be successful.”
Moore wasn’t the only one with tournament success. Senior Sydney Green also made the All Tournament Team. Green had 12 kills against Sullivan.
Green said, “I have never gotten (All Tournament) before, so it felt pretty good and was very unexpected.”
Moore was recently recognized from the local paper. The Jefferson County Leader gave her athlete of the week award.
Moore said, “I am very thankful that I was chosen to get this award. I’m glad that other people (not just people in the Windsor community) are seeing it. I feel like Windsor volleyball hasn’t really gotten the recognition they deserve, so I am glad that it is finally happening.”
