With the start of a new school year comes the many new faces of students and teachers alike. One of those new faces is new English teacher Samantha Gegg. But don’t be fooled, she’s no newcomer when it comes to teaching, having previously worked at Farmington High School and Valle Catholic High School, working for a total of nine years.
So far, Gegg is enjoying her new teaching gig.
Gegg said, “It’s been good. I definitely feel like these students have been my most capable. I teach the regular kids, not even honors and I feel that they’re pretty strong.”
Gegg is in the classroom that was previously occupied by John Leech for the past 30 years. She has been impressed with the welcoming atmosphere at Windsor.
Gegg said, “I like the staff. They’re very supportive, and they check in a lot and they all kind of get along. I thought they’ve been great.”
And while it’s only been a few weeks here, she already has big plans.
Gegg said, “I’m trying something new this year that I’ve never tried in my classes before for independent reading. I’ve tried a variety of stuff over the years…I’m giving the freshmen an option of giving a book talk to the class or they can choose to come to me during Owl Time and be interviewed over their book.”
Away from the classroom, Gegg is also taking over the dance program. She replaces Kaylee Trenary.
“I started coaching the Golden Line over the summer, and it’s going great. We went to an overnight camp in July where we learned a ton of routines and have been practicing constantly for all of our performances this fall. We try to perform a new routine at each game, if we can, so we practice a lot in order to make that happen,” Gegg said.
She isn’t the only Gegg who is taking over a program. Her husband, Jacob Gegg, is taking over the boys wrestling program. The Gegg’s are also busy being parents, with two young boys, one attending the Pre-K program and the other in first grade at Windsor Elementary.
Samantha Gegg said, “(Jacob is) the head wrestling coach this year. He worked as the assistant wrestling coach for the program last school year and is excited for his new role. He has over 10 years of experience coaching wrestling and has coached both middle school and high school teams.”
