The track team is hoping to end the season with even more school records.
Throughout the season, several school records have been broken this year.
To start off the year, Noah Harman broke his own 100m record with a time of 11.06. Then, at the Tiger Town Invitational, the girls broke the 4×100 relay record. The relay of Natalie Krause, Shaelee Mancuso, Ty Schenck, and Keira Dixon broke that record with a time of 50.78 seconds.
Girls head coach Stephany Dueker said, “I am happy with and proud of the girls for breaking the record but we still have quite a bit of work to do to get where we really want to be.”
The record breaking relay included two freshmen, one sophomore and one junior, so more records may fall in the near future.
Schenck said, “I feel happy and proud to have beaten it and even more excited I got to do it with my friends.”
There are still plenty of chances of breaking more records with the varsity girls 4×1 record being broken and about one second off of breaking the varsity girls 4×2 record.
“It is possible for a group of girls to break our 4×200 record and break that 4×100 record again,” Dueker said.
At the recent JCAA conference track meet, the boys 4×200 (AJ Patrick, Will Kalisch, Alex Sullivan, and Layton Hollis) took first place. Junior Will Kalisch also won the pole vault.
“Will Kalisch really stepped up for us. We are hoping that can carry over to several of our other athletes as we get closer to the district meet,” boys head coach Jeff Stoffey said. “I’m excited to see how we can finish.”
The Owls last regular season meet is tomorrow at Hillsboro. The district meet is on Saturday, May 11 at Festus.
Dueker said, “I hope to have a couple relays qualify for sectionals and state and I’m really hoping we come home from state with medals.”
