For the first time since 2006, the Windsor High School football team began the season 3-1.The Owls third win of the season was a thrilling homecoming game in which Windsor prevailed 34-32 over Clayton.
“We need to improve on our defense but I think it was a good night for us,” junior Willie Coleman said after the homecoming game. “The final score should’ve been different and we should’ve won by more.”
In the homecoming game, Coleman rushed for 274 yards while junior Logan Wilson tacked on another 174 yards on the ground.
“I think during the homecoming game we blocked very well and on defense we got a lot of stops but I think we could improve on everyone doing their job and not putting ourselves in bad positions such as penalties,” Wilson said.
After the win over Clayton, the Owls struggled against DeSoto, losing 52-30 on Friday. The Owls are now 3-2 on the season. Last season, the Owls were 3-2, but struggled down the stretch and finished 4-6. With games against Hillsboro and North County on the horizon, the Owls have no time to be complacent.
With the Owls averaging over 300 yards on the ground per game, the team will rely heavily on its rushing attack down the stretch.
While the Owls are happy with the start, they are more worried about how they are going to finish the season.
Wilson said, “I think it feels good to know that this is the best start we’ve had but it is also bad because that’s a long time ago but I think we should have better starts moving forward.”
