Head volleyball coach Stephany Dueker-Richmond is no stranger to making history. After all, she led the Windsor volleyball team to the final four in 2019, the only appearance in program history.
On Tuesday, she continued to add to her storied career.
After wins over Lift for Life and Herculaneum, Dueker-Richmond recorded her 500th win of her career. Dueker-Richmond, who began her head coaching career in 2000, is now in her 25th season at the helm.
There was a large crowd of former students, coaches, and old co-workers who came out to support Dueker-Richmond and the team.
Dueker-Richmond said, “It was an amazing feeling to see so many of my former players, people I’ve coached with, parents of players, friends, and coworkers on that day. It was like having almost all of my favorite people in one of my very favorite places all at once. I haven’t seen some of those people in 20+ years.”
With the two wins on Tuesday, the Owls improved to 27-4 on the season. She has had several unforgettable moments throughout her career.
Dueker-Richmond said, “(Tuesday) will definitely be one of the most memorable parts of my career. Other big memorable moments would be my first tournament title, first win vs Festus, any of the district titles I’m blessed enough to be part of, and of course the sectional/quarterfinal we won to qualify for state.”
The Owls hope to make more memories this October. The team will begin district play against Lutheran South at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, October 22 at St. Joseph’s Academy. Windsor received the No. 2 seed for the district tournament.
Junior Lacey Meyers said, “We know we have hard competition ahead of us, but we’re very excited to see what we can come out and do.”
If the Owls play well at the district tournament, the team will likely have a district finals showdown with St. Pius X.
Dueker-Richmond said, “We are playing well right now; anything is possible. I want the girls to finish the season playing hard, loving the sport, and having fun together. Win or lose, you don’t want them to have regrets when it’s over. I want them to make the most of the opportunities they have left.”
