For the first time since 2019, Windsor will be able to host home track meets. In the spring of that year, Windsor unveiled their beautiful new baseball/softball facility.
But the new facility did have one opportunity cost–it eliminated the throwing areas away from the track and field program.
In the spring of 2020, Windsor had three state caliber throwers–Seif Elkhashab, Drew Evans, and Ethan West. Unfortunately, there was nowhere for the kids to throw. The team had an arrangement for them to head to Herculaneum and Seckman 1-2 days a week to practice in their throwing rings. Obviously, that season was cut short due to the pandemic.
The school did buy portable throwing rings a few years ago so the kids could have adequate practice facilities. However, the team still couldn’t have any home track meets.
Due to the lack of open fields available on campus, there seemed to be no solution in sight.
“It has been frustrating not having a real throwing area for the past five years or so. While it’s been disappointing not having home track meets, I’m more excited that we will not have actual practice areas for the athletes to improve every single day,” head coach Jeff Stoffey said.
Track seniors will now be able to be honored for senior night at their home track meets.
“I have never been able to have a home meet before so I am excited to be able to host one and sit at our own school for hours,” senior Noah Kizer said.
When the construction is complete, the track facilities should be more than adequate.
“I anticipate us having one of the best throwing areas in the area. We should have multiple rings to practice in, along with a rubberized javelin runway. I’m ecstatic that we will finally have these facilities for our athletes,” Stoffey said.
