As the crowd erupted, the first ever WHS Powderbuff volleyball champions were crowned. On November 9, 2023, Windsor High School held its first ever all-male powderbuff volleyball tournament, consisting of four teams coached by senior volleyball players. The question then arose, would it happen again? The Hoot is proudly sponsoring the 2nd annual Powderbuff volleyball tournament.
All junior and senior boys are welcome to play in the tournament, which will take place at 6pm on Thursday, November 14.
Senior volleyball players were picked as coaches: Ashley Perkins/ Kiera Dixon coaching team 1, Lindsey Garland coaching team 2, Mia Nilsen/Abby Lanfersieck coaching team 3, and Sarah Wieberg/Hannah Jarnegan coaching the 4th and final team. Head volleyball coach Stephany Dueker-Richmond will be the referee for the tournament.
Lindsey Garland, coach of team 2, was a senior defender for the Windsor Owls volleyball team.
Garland said, “I am very excited to coach against my teammates and to be a coach for a day finally.”
Ashley Perkins is the head coach of team 1, along with Keira Dixon. Perkins, also a senior, plays libero for the Owls, and Dixon plays right side. Perkins is also excited to coach for once.
Perkins said, “I’m excited to coach against Mia(Nilsen) and Abby(Lanfersieck) because they’re the duo on the volleyball team and I know they’ll have a lot of energy.”
Two coaches were asked who their first round draft pick would be, as Garland said Keegan Murphy, and Perkins replied Layton Hollis.
Everyone interested in playing must complete the Google Form before Owl Time on Friday, November 8.
To make it more exciting, the “player draft” will take place on November 8 during Owl Time by the senior volleyball players.
Senior Mason Eller, who played last year, said, “I am looking forward to playing powderbuff again and just hope we don’t lose every game this time around.”
