Windsor High School’s new weight room is nothing short of impressive. Featuring indoor turf, a wide range of free weights, and enough racks to outfit a college football team, it’s quickly become the go-to spot for student athletes looking to boost their strength and performance.
With the new year came some exciting additions to the school, including the strength room doubling as a tornado shelter in case of an emergency. Strength coaches Ty Van Valkenburg and Jeff Funston put in a lot of time and hard work to create this new strength room for their students. And, if a tornado ever hits, the school and students will stay calm and get everyone where they need to be safely.
Coach Van Valkenburg said, “I have faith that our strength and conditioning students will be very helpful and accommodating and make sure it’s a smooth process.”
The excitement has been building at Windsor High School about how the new weight room would turn out — and now that it’s finally here, what do people think?
With the new weight room, hopes are high that the equipment will be better maintained and that endurance sports will improve. So, what does Coach Van Valkenburg think about it?
He’s very happy with how it all turned out, especially considering the time and effort he put into making sure every detail matched his vision.
Coach Van Valkenburg said, “It is so awesome,. I’m very proud of how it turned out.”
His expectations for the new weight room are clear: “Enjoy what was given to you, continue to hold the standard, and make the most of the time you have with this incredible facility and resources — honoring those who came before you and those who will come after.”
When talking to some students at Windsor High School, every one of them had something positive to say about the new weight room. They all expect everyone who uses it to work hard and make the most of their time there.
One junior, Cooper Lammert, really appreciates all the new weight room has to offer.
He said, “Honestly, I think it’s really awesome. I think Coach Van Valkenburg put a lot of time and effort into our strength program. He did a great job designing it.”
Some students involved in Strength and Conditioning hope the new equipment will help improve their running, jumping, and overall strength, helping them perform better in their sports.
Lucas James is excited about what the future holds .
He said, “We have more advanced equipment that can help with training for certain sports that will help us jump higher, run faster, and be overall better.”
He also feels the new room will increase Coach Van Valkenburg’s trust in the students, since they see how much hard work he put into the space.
James said, “I feel like he has a little more trust in our abilities to keep the room organized and trusts we will work to our fullest potential with the new equipment given to us.”
