The high school basketball season is longer than any other sport during the school year. The length of the season can be a challenge for players and coaches. This can be especially difficult when a team struggles.

To their credit, the Windsor girl’s basketball team never quit working hard and having a positive attitude this season.

While they ended the season 4-22, the Owls always kept coming to work every day.

Senior Calli Robertson said, “The season might have looked rough but I had a fun time with all my teammates. My goal was to never overthink it, to always have a positive attitude and just play the game. When we were positive, we always played better.”

Head coach Kim Schmidt was happy with the team’s effort this season, but wishes it would have resulted in more wins.

Coach Schmidt said, “It was a little disappointing in terms of wins and losses. We didn’t quite achieve what we thought we were capable of this year.”

However, being positive and having fun was a motto for these ladies.

Senior Abby Holloway said, “We always had fun in practice.”

The season may have been a struggle, but there were some bright moments.

Coach Schmidt said “We definitely had some individuals who stepped up their game and improved from last year. Shaina Kmetz and Calli Robertson both had pretty decent seasons.”

Robertson and Kmetz were both named to the second team all conference team. The seniors on this team will definitely be missed and someone else will have to fill their shoes in terms of production and leadership.

Coach Schmidt said,“I going to miss my seniors Calli Robertson, Shaina Kmetz, Macey Hirth and Abby Holloway, especially since they provided a majority of our scoring and just a lot of confidence, which is something we lacked this year. There are definitely some big shoes that were going to have to fill for next year.”
