What is your routine for preparing for competitions and practices?

Upon arrival to practices, we block out our practice time minute by minute to make sure we know exactly what we are doing for how long. It usually starts with conditioning and stretching and then moves into working on our dances. To prepare for competitions, we do many things. The week of the competition we extend our practice time, add an extra day of practices, and even meet up to practice around 6:50 am the morning before. We arrive at the competition extra early to get time on the floor we compete on. We spend the morning listening to the music our dance is to about 100 times, and eventually in a huddle pumping each other up. Soon after, we walk to the floor and compete. “

What is your preferred style of dance and why?

“My preferred style of dance is hip hop, because it’s quick and upbeat. The music is always modern and gets everyone excited. It is definitely the most crowd pleasing style we do. It is extremely difficult not to have fun while doing hip hop. “

What are your thoughts on the recent competition at Lindbergh?

“The Lindbergh competition went extremely well this year! We placed third out of six in the 4A Lyrical division. It was the first year we’ve competed with a large team, and we competed with some amazing nationally ranked teams.”

What are you and the team doing to prepare for nationals and state coming up?

“To prepare for nationals and state, we will continue to practice Monday- Thursday, and practice on our breaks and the occasional Saturday. We plan to work on new tricks and skills to further advance the difficulty of our dance. I am looking forward most to the new experiences nationals will bring, and watching how the team will continue to grow throughout the season.”
