Over the recent winter break, the Windsor basketball team had to make some adjustments after leading scorers Ethan and Evan Worley transferred to Hillsboro. The departures left the Owls with eight varsity players and an ample amount of playing time for others on the team.

Junior Grant Siegel has made the most of his increase in playing time. In a recent game against Northwest, Siegel shot a perfect 6-for-6 from three point range. He led the Owls with 20 points.

Siegel said, “I think the team is adjusting to the lineup changes very well. It is easier to have good chemistry when the team is smaller and everyone is on the same page, and I feel that we have been on the same page throughout the lineup changes. I feel like anyone can start in any game and do what’s necessary for the team to succeed.”

Siegel has enjoyed the increase time on the court.

Siegel said, “My responsibilities on the court have increased, so I’m trying to do my best to listen to coach and take my role in stride. One of my responsibilities is to take on more of a scoring role with my shooting and I’m trying my best to do that for the team.”

With the increased playing time, others have stepped up as well. Senior Justin Van Etten shot 7-for-7 from the field against Northwest.

The Owls are fortunate to have senior leaders Van Etten, Connor Hartmann and Aaron Harrison.

Senior Connor Hartmann said, “My role has not changed significantly, but I am counted on more to produce more.”

Siegel said, “I think that everybody has stepped up in one way or the other. Our seniors have really stepped up as leaders, and the team as a whole has stepped up too. Any game, someone can have a good game and step up for the team, and the next someone else can step up and help out the team.”

Hartmann is now the leading scorer on the team with 10.4 points per game.

Hartmann said, “The sudden change at this point in the season definitely was a little difficult, but it put the seniors in a position where we are required to be leaders and actually step up and be leaders for the team.”
