After a tough week one game against Herculaneum, the Windsor football team could have folded.

Instead, they rose to the challenge.

The Owls beat Perryville 28-7 on Friday. Junior AJ Patrick scored three touchdowns in the game–two receiving and one on an interception return.

Head coach Jeff Funston, who is in his second season at the helm, said, “With the win over Perryville being our first win I hope they bring the same energy into this game Friday, but I would rather have a well executed game over a well energy game all day.”

Last season, the Owls finished 3-7.

Head coach Jeff Funston is always looking for ways to improve his program.

Every year in the off season I evaluate what we are losing from the graduating seniors and what is coming up from the lower levels. From there we tweak what we need to offensively and defensively to best take advantage of our strengths. After we get that settled, it is time to look at any new training ideas that we can implement to make us more efficient.”

Funston, who was hired as the head coach last summer, is finally getting his chance to put his stamp on the program.

Funston said, “It’s in a state of growth.  At this time we have a large group that has bought into the direction that our football team is headed and they are leading the charge of getting us there.”

To start this season, junior Anthony Fletcher is the starting quarterback. For the season, he is 8-16 with a pair of touchdown passes to junior AJ Patrick. Before the game, Fletcher tries to mentally prepare himself.

Fletcher said, “For pregame, usually I try to calm down and get other people to calm down and think of the play we will run.”

Starting Running back Jordan Foster has run for 256 yards and two touchdowns on the season. He likes to listen to music to prepare himself for Friday nights.

Foster said, “For a pregame ritual, I like to listen to NBA Youngboy and lock in.”

As he enters his final season, Foster reflects on his time on the football team. He’s hoping to make more memories this season.

Foster said “My favorite memory of football was winning the homecoming game against Desoto after over 20 years. It felt like we made history for Windsor.”

The Owls next game is at 7pm on Friday at home against Festus.

Funston said, “For this game, I hope we execute all we need to do and if we do that we should have a good game.”
