Former Middle School Choir director, Josh Geringer, is in his first year at the high school, and he has come out of the gates running with his mohawk spiked as high as his attitude. Geringer takes over for Michael Sellman, who led the choir for over a decade. 

The ever ambitious Geringer will complete a full circle with his seniors, who began their choir journey with him in the sixth grade, and will now be the one to send them off on their last year as Windsor Choir members. The seniors themselves are also quite excited to be reunited with the teacher, who first sparked their passion for choir that drove them to continue singing for seven whole years. 

“I feel like it’s going to be a good year in choir, and there’s going to be a lot of opportunities for us,” said senior Zoey Salzman. 

The seven-year choir member is ecstatic to be reunited with her first choir teacher who helped her discover her amazing ability called Perfect Pitch. Salzman can remarkably identify any pitch simply by hearing it once.

Geringer is just as elated as his seniors for this year; although, for him it’s excitement for his first and the senior’s excitement for their last. He came into the first day of school with all music for the year decided and a labeled folder for each student. Prepared would be an understatement when describing Geringer.

When asked about how it felt seeing his sixth graders as seniors, Geringer said, “When it comes to CCT (Women’s Choir), watching them kind of find their own voice and really start to sing out compared to in middle school, when it’s a lot of, ‘It’s okay, c’mon, you can do it,’ and now seeing these young women really singing out and being the individuals I knew they could be is really cool. And the same thing with the men, seeing how they found their voices and also matured mentally is amazing.”

The choir is only just getting started, but Geringer’s satisfaction in his seniors is already through the roof with them helping him lead the underclassmen.

“Yeah, when he teaches, I remember little sixth-grade me being nervous to sing and just starting. I’m more confident now, though,” senior Mariah Guseman  said with a laugh. 

His presence was nostalgic to many of the seniors, including his routine stretches and specific vocal warmups. 

Geringer has had a special hand in raising his seniors with lessons that apply both inside and outside of the choir room. He has taught confidence and dedication along with the skills to move forward with music. The seniors have dedicated many years of their lives to this choir because of Geringer, and now get to be the firsts to begin and end his legacy.

“We have so much talent at Windsor High School, and I want to showcase that to the community, to the county, to the state, to anybody we can,” Geringer said.
