The Windsor C-1 High School football team is proud to be hosting their first annual STL Metro High School Powerlifting meet on Saturday, February 16.

The meet was initiated by head football coach Alex DeMatteis and is aimed at any current high school student.

“If you are a student and you can lift weight, you should most definitely participate,” strength coach Ty Van Valkenburg said.

Three events will be taking place, including: back squat, bench press, and deadlift.

There will be a boys and a girls division, which will each consist of their own weight classes. There will be a first, second, and third place winner of each event separated into three-lift total by weight class and by two divisions of freshman/sophomore and junior/senior.

“Strength training is quickly becoming a part of the overall athletic culture here at Windsor and this will be an event to showcase our commitment to strength and conditioning this year and for many years to come,” DeMatteis said.

Students who are interested to sign up can do so online. There is a link posted on the Windsor Football and Strength and Conditioning Twitter pages.  The link will also include a schedule for the day and the weight classes.

“This will be an awesome event that will only grow in the coming years. I hope all of our Windsor students engaged in Strength & Conditioning will compete at the Power Meet,” DeMatteis said.

It costs $25 per athlete to participate and admission to the event is $2.  Proceeds will be given back to Windsor athletics.

“It’s awesome. I’m excited to see all the talent the kids express and to see them accomplish things they didn’t know they could,” Van Valkenburg said.
