It is officially musical season at Windsor High School, and yesterday was the big day–musical reveal day! For the first time in 20 years, the musical director is not Lisa Honz.
The Thespian Society gathered together with new director Deanna Michel after school where she made the big reveal of what musical they will be performing this year.
In the previous years, they performed “Footloose” in 2023,” Oliver!” in 2022, and “We Will Rock You” in 2021. All of the shows were tremendously successful, and with such a promising group, this year is expected to be no less.
“I think that there is a chance for either Matilda or Spongebob, because those are being performed at other schools around us,” Wyatt Graham, president of the Thespian Society, said before the big reveal.
This is a year with plenty of seniors both new and old to the world of theater to highlight. President Wyatt Graham, Peyton Brown, Griffin Graves, Katie Boyster, Lilly Harrison, Caleb Schwenk, Olivia Limpert, and Alex Palme are all preparing for their final musical at Windsor High School.
“Musical rehearsals are definitely my favorite out of any of the thespian activities because there is so much growth. You start at ground zero and you get the most out of your efforts,” Graham said.
The actors and crew have much work to do, with learning lines, choreography, songs, and the tech booth operations, not to mention stage decorations and the set. With so much to learn in so little time, they definitely have their work cut out for them, but according to their president, the fruits of that labor are extremely rewarding.
The auditions begin December 11 for all who are interested and the callbacks will be one December 13. The beauty of theater is that there is a role for everybody, even if the cast is small.
“I’m really intrigued to see how the ensemble will go this year because the cast is small, so the ensemble is going to be huge,” Graham said.
The show will be performed February 23-25, and the tickets will be $5. All of the proceeds go to supporting the thespian society and future shows.
“Yeah, I think everybody should come to the show, it’s going to be really fun this year,” said senior Caleb Schwenk, a first year member of the Thespians.
And now, for the big reveal! This year’s musical will be…
Little Shop Of Horrors! (more to come later)
