With one of the most consistent programs in the area, the Windsor volleyball team is off to another promising start.
The Owls went 29-5-1 last year. In 2023, the Owls were 32-2 and 27-4 in 2022. Obviously, it’s a program accustomed to winning.
With that being said, the 2024 Owls team might be one of head coach Stephany Dueker-Richmond’s deepest teams yet. The Owls have 13 players, including 7 seniors this season–Hannah Jarnegan, Abby Lanfersieck, Lindsey Garland, Mia Nelson, Kiera Dixon, Ashley Perkins and Sara Wieberg
“This year’s team is very well-rounded. I have many athletes who can play multiple positions. They are also very coachable–they seem to be trying to do what’s asked of them and they seem to get along,” Dueker-Richmond said.
They are currently 3-2 on the young season.
“My expectation is for us to continue to work hard and improve in both skill and teamwork and to compete hard in every game,” Dueker-Richmond said.
The Owls graduated several key leaders from last year’s team, including standout Katie Moore.
“Leaders vary from day to day. Ashley Perkins is stepping up nicely to lead vocally. The majority of my seniors are doing a good job leading by example,” Dueker-Richmond said.
The Owls will rely heavily on their seniors this season.
“Some of my goals for this season with my team is to win our conference,” Jarnegan said
Hannah Jarnegan has enjoyed playing volleyball for Windsor. She wants to make her final season a memorable one.
“My favorite volleyball memory was the summer before my sophomore year, Coach Dueker took her varsity team and we drove down to Cape Girardeau to play in a tournament,” Jarnegan said.
With such a large rotation, the team has some work to do in order to peak at the right time.
Dueker-Richmond said, “I feel like we played hard the majority of the time but played like it’s early and we aren’t well seasoned. We have much work to do but all of the right parts are there. This group is going to take a while to peak.”
