Melanie Willis has brought passion, versatility, and a love for communication to Windsor schools, where she currently teaches at both the high school and middle school. Before coming to Windsor, Willis taught in the Wentzville and Liberty school districts, gaining experience that helped shape her teaching style and approach in the classroom.
At Windsor High School, Willis teaches Oral Communication, Real World Writing, and Competitive Speech and Debate. Last semester, she also taught Drama at the high school level. In addition, she works with middle school students, where she teaches Reading and Drama. Teaching across two buildings and multiple subjects keeps her schedule busy, but it also allows her to connect with a wide range of students.
“My favorite class to teach is Oral Communications. I like teaching about public speaking,” Willis said.
She believes public speaking is one of the most important skills students can learn, no matter what career path they choose. From giving presentations to speaking confidently in everyday situations, she feels these skills help students succeed both in and out of school.
Teaching has always been Willis’s goal. Originally, she planned to become a choir teacher, but complications with college credit transfers led her to change her major. She ultimately switched to drama, a decision she says she is grateful for. Willis shared that she is much happier teaching drama and communication than she would have been teaching choir.
Through her dedication and enthusiasm, Melanie Willis continues to inspire students to find their voices and express themselves with confidence.
“I always wanted to be a teacher,” Willis said.
